Weight Loss Program
Where typical diets fail, we succeed. At Intellectual Medicine, we know that maintaining a healthy weight is often easier said than done.
The first step toward your weight loss success is understanding that persistent difficulty with weight control is a medical problem that requires the right combination of medical care, lifestyle changes, and most importantly, individualized guidance and support.
How We Do It – Consultation
Your journey will start with a phone call to our office: 401-921-5934. We will take some basic information and schedule your consultation. Blood work may be ordered and conducted before your consultation.
People who are suffering with medically significant weight are not afflicted with inadequate discipline or a lack of personal fortitude, they simply have not received a pat on the back. The “Intellectual Medicine Method” stays with you. We know it takes years for new behaviors to become permanent. Even at that point periodic maintenance is required. We don’t run you in circles, repeating the same treatment every time you fall off the wagon. Our maintenance program has kept virtually all of our patients at their target weight.
Intake: An expanded medical history and physical will be performed as well as laboratory analysis to help guide recommendations for your prescription and nutraceutical treatments. You will then meet weekly in a group session for 8 weeks, follow by 16 weeks of bi-weekly (every other week) group sessions. At the end of this time, if you are at your goal weight, you can continue on into the maintenance program. If you have not yet achieved your goal weight, you can continue into Step Two until the desired weight is achieved.
What’s included:
- Instruction in the core principles of Intellectual Medicine for Weight Loss
- A copy of the 100+ page weight loss guide written by the founder of Intellectual Medicine

- Access to counselors via email for questions and guidance between appointments

Treatment: At the end of your Phase 1 treatment, an analysis of your weight loss and body composition will be performed. If you are at your goal weight & body fat you will be directed toward the maintenance program. If you have more weight to lose, we will be recommending Phase 2 treatment. Phase 2 consists of every other week meetings with your weight loss counselor until you reach your goal weight – however long that may be. Remember, we are all individuals and lose weight at different speeds. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet.
After you lost the weight…now what? We believe that the key to long-term success is continued guidance and support to help you maintain all that you’ve worked so hard to achieve.
Have a question? So do lot of people just like you. Maybe we can answer it for you, give us a call at 401-921-5934.
Success
The success of Intellectual Medicine for weight loss is based on four pillars:
The first is proper construction of macronutrients. This is the proportion of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins that are best suited to your body’s needs. This mix can be different for different people depending on your genetics and your lifestyle.
The second pillar is micronutrient optimization. If your body is lacking critical vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, it will set up a pattern of cravings as your brain is seeking adequate amounts of these trace substances. For instance, if you’re lacking in zinc, you won’t wake up hungering for the metal itself but rather with the general craving that will compel you to continue consuming into you achieve adequate amounts of that which is needed.
The third pillar is functional activity. This refers to strength training, cardiovascular exercise, micro exercising and other forms of physical activity. Too much, or the wrong kind of exercise can actually be counterproductive in pursuing your weight loss goals.
The fourth pillar is pharmacologic and nutraceutical. We use unique and carefully balanced pharmacology to support your behavioral change. Think of this as a sort of “scaffolding” that supports you as your lifestyle change becomes more permanent. In many cases patients continue to succeed after cessation of pharmacologic support. In other cases, intermittent cycles are required to maintain healthy weight.
Making your weight-loss permanent: Unlike most other programs that put you through a predetermined treatment cycle then dump you at the other end with a pat on the back, The “Intellectual Medicine’s Method” stays with you. We know it takes years for new behaviors to become permanent. Even at that point periodic maintenance is required. We don’t run you in circles, repeating the same treatment every time you fall off the wagon. Our maintenance program has kept virtually all of our patients at their target weight.
